Eddie Matney is the executive chef and co-owner of
Eddie Matney’s, a fabulous Phoenix eatery that is home to his
renowned cuisine.
Affectionately known as “the most colorful chef” in town,
Matney’s approach to New American Cuisine
embraces the belief that the “melting pot theory” applies
equally well to cooking as to sociology.
According to Chef Eddie, his cooking is a "Mirror of America."
His cuisine, like America itself, is multi-cultural,
multiethnic and utilizes the many flavors that are native to
classic American and Mediterranean cooking.
His ingenious use of ingredients pushes the envelope of flavor
and excitement to turn long-time standards into flavorful new favorites.
Prior to coming to Arizona in 1986 to open Steamers, Chef
Eddie co-owned and operated the successful Stockbridge Café in
the Berkshires of Massachusetts. In 1988, he and partner Larry
Kohn opened KousKous, which later became Eddie's Grill. In
September 1998, Eddie and his wife and partner Jennifer Blank-Matney
pursued their dreams to open their new restaurant, Eddie
Matney's. The restaurant is located in the heart of Phoenix's
Biltmore shopping district at 24th Street and Camelback Road.
In addition to managing the daily operations of his
restaurant, Eddie hosts a weekly cooking segment on Arizona’s
Channel 5 News and is a columnist for Arizona Homes and
Lifestyles. He also recently teamed up with Poore Brothers
Potato Chips® to produce and market several seasonal flavors,
including the current featured flavor, Chef Eddie's
Mediterranean Spiced Chips!
Along with being dubbed the "Number One Chef in the Valley"
for two consecutive years by Phoenix Magazine, he has
been celebrated for his unique culinary style in a number of
prestigious publications including Food and Wine, USA Today,
Bon Appetit, Food Arts, Nation’s Restaurant News and Money
Magazine.
While in New York for his dinner presentation at The James
Beard House, Chef Eddie was featured on CBS' The Early
Show in June 2000. In addition, earlier this year, Chef Eddie
was selected for the second consecutive year as the exclusive
Arizona chef to represent the state at the prestigious "Taste
of the NFL"
event. This fundraiser is held annually on the eve of the
Super Bowl.
His colorful and innovative approach to the preparation and
presentation of food, coupled with his bold individualism and
dynamic persona make Eddie a unique force on the national
culinary scene. As a self-taught chef, he was the first
chef in Arizona to have a regular cooking segment on
television. With his diverse array of specialties, culinary
flair and creativity, Chef Eddie makes each and every meal a
truly distinctive, and always delicious, dining experience.
